Photography as Living History
From the first photograph in 1826 to the digital present: the History of
Photography is a story of constant reinvention – from looking through the camera obscura to the fine art print. This

Pioneers of Photography
Berenice Abbott documented New York in transition and insisted that
photography go its own way – not the way of painting. Robert Lebeck
shaped decades of German visual history as a photojournalist, among others for Stern magazine. Both prove: a good photograph
needs no trend to endure.
Glamour and Zeitgeist
Slim Aarons photographed, in his own words, "attractive people doing
attractive things in attractive places" – creating the defining image of post-war high society.
Bert Stern revolutionized advertising photography and created one of the
most famous portraits of Marilyn Monroe with "The Last Sitting."
