Miguel Guía reimagines the animals in the style of the balloon dog, drawing inspiration from Pop Art. His interpretation of the three wise monkeys—“see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”—creates a deeply personal sculptural ensemble. The contemporary design, featuring a sleek metallic finish, is elegantly set on a polished base of black graphite and limestone.

The Spanish artist Miguel Guía has established himself in the international art scene through his work in sculpture, painting, and photography. Influenced by his interdisciplinary artist family, he developed an early deep understanding and special sensitivity to various forms of beauty. His artistic range spans from Cubism to Realism, Impressionism, and Hyperrealism. Throughout his body of work, the exploration of the essence of beauty runs like a red thread: with his unmistakable style, known as "ArtEssence," he has made a name for himself internationally. This style combines sculptural, painterly, and 3D techniques and is characterized by a dialogic process between viewer and artwork. Through dynamic compositions, his works intentionally invite the viewer to interpret and unlock their meaning. Guía’s art fuses traditional craftsmanship with technological innovations. By using digital tools and 3D technologies, he is able to realize complex abstractions that go beyond the possibilities of manual methods. The evolution of his artistic signature and the underlying principle that runs through his work are clearly reflected in his sculptures Wise Monkeys Blue, one of his more recent works, and Infant Girl Air and Metal, his first Cubist artwork from 1982. The sculpture reinterprets Velázquez’s iconic Las Meninas in the style of Cubism. The title of the work was inspired by a statement by Salvador Dalí, which revealed his unparalleled view of the world and art and sparked contemplation in Miguel Guía. When asked what he would save from the Prado Museum in the event of a fire, Dalí responded, “The air and space in Las Meninas by Velázquez.” Meanwhile, with its metallic finish, glossy blue, and clear formal language, Wise Monkeys Blue reflects the modern spirit with pop and street art influences. In this sculpture, Guía brings the image of the Three Wise Monkeys from Japanese culture to life: they embody the principle “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil,” a teaching that advocates turning away from anything that does not adhere to the law of beauty. Wise Monkeys Blue picks up on this maxim by lifting the traditional saying into the aesthetic sphere and blending in modern nuances. Featuring a blue nickel coating over cold-cast copper and a base made of graphite and limestone, Guía elevates the classic symbol to a new, vibrant, and pop-infused level. Both sculptures bear Miguel Guía’s unmistakable signature, merging tradition and innovation into an inspiring whole. They showcase Guía’s talent for capturing the essence of iconic cultural imagery and enriching it with fresh dimensions, resulting in an electrifying interplay between metaphorical and physical multidimensionality.
