Introduction
Iván Gómez Aparicio’s sculptures are portraits of inwardness. With closed eyes, serene features, and a quiet presence, his busts appear like figures absorbed in themselves, as if suspended in a mythical dream state. They refuse the outward gaze—opening instead inner realms of memory, reverie, and self-encounter.
In his practice, Gómez Aparicio draws on the lineage of classical sculpture while translating it into the language of today. Starting from the human face, he integrates geometric elements that function like architectural frames. A delicate balance emerges—between figure and structure, ideal and nature, timeless form and contemporary symbolism. His material language is equally layered: bronze, iron, and marble dust with resin lend the works weight and permanence, while refined surfaces and sensitively judged proportions open a fragile elegance. The precision of traditional sculpture is interrupted by an unexpected detail: caps as vivid accents of color, set against the dark materiality of the busts, heightening the tension between strength and tenderness, authority and play.
It is this fusion of contrasts that has earned Iván Gómez Aparicio international recognition. His works have been exhibited from Madrid to Karlsruhe to Monaco, and in 2024 he was awarded First Prize at the prestigious Jacinto Higueras Biennale.
