Audrey Hepburn, then and now

Audrey Hepburn is one of the few artists to be counted among EGOT winners. This means that she has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. The actor and dancer was extremely versatile in her talents. During the Second World War Audrey Hepburn took ballet lessons at the Arnhem Conservatory. She pursued a career as a ballerina, but due to her wartime malnutrition she was physically unable to keep up with her fellow troop members. So she began to work as a model and actress. Her first major successes soon followed. Already in 1951 she shined as Gigi on Broadway in New York.

Audrey Hepburn was one of the leading film actresses of the 1950's and 1960's. Movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's or My Fair Lady are still known to many people today.

She was to become a fashion icon as the muse of the Givenchy fashion house. Her style was characterized by the typical simple silhouette, which emphasized her slender form. Flat shoes, black, ankle-free leggings or narrow-cut trousers and turtlenecks were also part of her style. The "little black dress" was her fashion statement, and her accentuated dark eyebrows are unforgettable. Indeed, Audrey Hepburn was exceptionally photogenic. Today, vintage black and white photographs shape our memories of the doe-eyed former model.

From the 1970s Audrey Hepburn retired almost completely from the film business and devoted herself to her family. Hepburn is also known for her commitment to UNICEF against hunger in developing countries. This earned her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992.

The movie star can still be found on countless vintage movie posters, in photographs, and in drawings and paintings on both print and canvas. Her style, her grace, and her scandal-free life make her a fairly harmonic icon for many fans.
